Dreamland BBQ / Tuscaloosa, AL

Located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, just a couple miles off of Interstate 59, Dreamland BBQ was a happening place when I visited. Opened in 1958 by John "Big Daddy" Bishop, the cafe prides itself on being a southern BBQ legend. In fact, the Dreamland slogan boldly states Ain't nothin' like 'em nowhere.

The menu is small, and it becomes obvious that customers are here for one thing --- the ribs. The only choice to make is 12 bones (slab), 6 bones (half slab) or 4 bones. I ordered a half slab of Dreamland's hickory-smoked pork spare ribs. The ribs arrived covered in the cafe's southern style sauce --- a tangy mixture of sweet and spicy with just a hint of a kick to it. The meat on the ribs was so tender, it slipped off the bone with little effort.

After finishing my half slab, I realized that the slogan is true. Dreamland is serving something you can't find anywhere else.

If you're in the Tuscaloosa area, this legendary cafe is certainly worth visiting. Dreamland is located at 5535 15th Avenue East.
